I’ll be honest, if I read it somewhere, I have no clue. I just can’t help but see that as a “I have made a mistake” face, and I figured “return to egg” would be a bird’s closest “I want my mommy”.
All the better if you made it up yourself, I thought it was a great opening for a story!

I really have to watch some of these extra cute pics. Some many on Facebook and Google searches are edited or AI generated anymore. Nothing wrong with that in principle, but it’s annoying mixed in with the real stuff.
That’s why I pull a lot from eBird and Flickr since they’re both full of nature photographers. I put all 50+ rescues I shared with you guys in my Facebook feed, do you’d think I’d get endless real stuff, but it’s a minimum of half fake things, some of which are pretty convincing at quick glance.
