Best router to get for a 2000 sq area. Unfortunately wired isn’t an option at this time but maybe in the future.Appreciate suggestions.

Another question, any thoughts on the Asus RT-AX88U vs a ubiquiti dream router? Both are close in price. My situation is: empty nesters in larger house with a small but growing collection of smart devices. At some point point I’ll add wired access points in the basement and upper floor.

I personally don’t like the UDR. I think it’s a woefully underpowered device. Because I feel anyone who learns the GUI and system is going to grow out of it and end up in a more powerful device. I think it fits more in the “I need to put something in my parents house that I can manage easily remotely.” It also caps at 700mbps.

But lots of people like them. I’d say it’s split 50/50 maybe 70/30 with people who feel similarly to myself. And those who like/enjoy them.

I absolutely love unifi though. If you’re willing to learn it, I say go for it. But I’d go router, switch, APs, over the UDR.

Thank you again. I was aware of the speed cap but didn’t realize it was underpowered. So I’m assuming the amplifi alien would be the same. The reason I was looking in that direction was that my understanding was they were capable of handling more IoT devices than consumer level hardware like Asus. I also hadn’t thought about the Unifi dream machine and Vlan route for devices. That makes a lot of sense. Although I suspect it would be a lot more expensive than the Asus path.
