Hi folks,

I need to buy a new router, this is what’s available on Amazon Black Friday 2023.

I just returned an appalling XE75 Pro.

I know enough about home networking, I should have know better the buying the TP-Link.

I need a robust high quality router, highly configurable, with security options.

Can’t spend 1000 EUR on top of the range Netgear stuff.

I was looking at the ASUS XT9.

I am coming from a LBR20, very happy about it, 'till it broke down after 3 years

The vast majority of Mesh kits limit configurability. That’s because the vast majority of consumers buy this equipment for ease of installation and ease of management. VLAN management or customized radio settings are essentially counter to the concept of the consumer mesh product category.

You’re only talking 120sqm, so it might make sense to centralize your WiFi and have a couple cables to strategically positioned access points. That way you get both top performance and full configurability.

120sqm is not large. Any WiFi6 router will be plenty. Worst case scenario you’ll need to put it in a central location but I doubt it.

For a 120 sq m home you do not need mesh. Just buy an Asus RT AX86U Pro. Very solid router. It can easily cover your home. And it has Asus mesh tech built in …. So if you ever bought a second Asus router, you can easily create a mesh network with the two.

If your home has cement walls then the wifi signal has problems to penetrate that. A mesh router does not help with that. But since your home is only 120 sq m, just a single router should be enough

I have an older Asus RT AC68U and it easily covers my 200 sq m home. But my walls are wood frame and not cement.
