I am planning to replace my current rig T7500 with a T5810 for $290 (not yet bought) which comes with the following specs:

  • Intel Xeon E5-1650 V3 (6c/12T)
  • 750 GB SATA SSD ( 500GB SSD + 250 GB SSD)
  • Nvidia Quadro M2000 (4 GB) GPU
  • 48 GB DDR4 ECC RAM
  • PSU: 685W

So my question is whether I can upgrade the CPU and PSU to the max, what is the best and latest supported CPU and PSU for this machine. Also, I have RTX 2060 which I intend to install. I am hoping it can handle the load. I’d be using this rig with Windows 11 23H2 and some casual gaming.

The best CPU is going to depend on the workload. If you’re looking to host lots of not particularly strenuous VMs like webserver based apps, home automation etc it would be better to go for more cores and lower clocks. If you want to host gameservers, those tend to benefit from higher single threaded performance.

The T5820 is a superior machine, for about the same price, especially if you game as it can support higher powered graphics cards - up to a 4080 I believe.

Have a pair of them in the home office - one for me, one for the kid - they are great machines. The NVME drives in the front is a great option to get, imo - as they are blazing fast (>2Gbps).

Bought both of mine from PCSP - nice transactions on both.
