Hey guys, I was originally going to get a TP-link wifi range extender that has an Ethernet port on it so I can use that with with my PC.

Currently, I have a powerline ethernet that isn’t great, and wireless on my phone is upto 3x better in the same area, hence why I wanted to do this (the tplink receives the wireless signal and then I just plug an ethernet from it to my pc)

However, seeing that the privacy of this isn’t the best and I need a tp link account which isn’t great, I was wondering if the following would not have any major drawbacks / something I wouldn’t release:

I have a mini pc with a i5 370 that does nothing, running arch linux, consumes about 10w when doing nada.

I buy a PCIE wireless card to plug into it, specifically one with an AX210 intel chip, about 20 quid

The mini pc connects to the wireless network and then I plug an Ethernet from it to my main PC and job’s done

This seems like the exact same setup just with more DIY hardware that i have more control of, would this work as planned? Thanks for reading!

I’ve done this a lot. It actually works pretty well but its not as intuitive as a router with a proper menu
