Charge these footballers and punish them if they are guilty like Greenwood even if the women withdraws the case, because there is enough evidence, but if they are proved innocent don’t push it under the rug like it happened with mendy, the apology should be as loud as the disrespect. And then football clubs should hold these news outlets responsible for wages and transfer fees.
If only a county would revolt against the British and create an “innocent until proven guilty” standard. Wouldn’t that be something…
The Americans didn’t invent presumption of innocence. The only stuff that the American founding fathers actually came up with is the obviously stupid stuff that doesn’t work. But you all cling to like holy gospel because you’re a bunch of morons.
Not sure if you’re talking about the US, but if so, not a great take. Major sporting organizations here—NFL, MLB, NBA, etc—suspend these fuckers and conduct their own investigation as soon as credible allegations emerge. Unlike the FA, these organizations have a backbone and publicly available protocol protocol that allows them to act.
A non story that will do nothing but fuel harmful speculation
As they should. It’s far too easy to accuse and ruin somebodies life and it not actually be true. It’s sad, and it takes away from the women that have genuinely been assaulted but it’s happened before. If they are proven guilty, the clubs should be able to sue them for any wages during the investigation and for loss of what ever their commercial value may have been, and no club should want to touch them with a barge pole. Sadly this will never be the case as we’ve seen with Greenwood (yeah yeah he was never proven guilty, only because she dropped the case and got back with him, we all know).
Isn’t it far too easy for footballers to rape and abuse people tho?
Yes.
False accusations are extremely rare.
Rapes and sexual abuse gotten away with is common.
It’s far too easy for anybody with a bit of power to do so. Look at all the celebrity stories that have broken in the last few years. Look at Saville, look at Johnson etc. it’s not a perfect system, but you can’t just presume somebody is guilty
Greenwood case was slightly different, his accusation was domestic abuse and evidence of his behaviour was released to the public. There wasn’t an accusation of rape, only an implication that he became aggressive and violent when his sexual advances were rejected.
Logic does dictate that with domestic abuse does come rape, however without his fiancee releasing a statement accusing of him rape, his case wouldn’t fit the narrative the BBC is attempting to display.
This might be because we have the presumption of innocence in this country.
unless convicted or they admit it this is a nonstory
do you know less than 3% of rape cases end in prosecution?
Christ, it’s like people just throw this out to virtue signal. YES we all know how notoriously hard sexual assault cases are to prove and prosecute, but you can’t use that to smear everyone that is accused. You have no idea how many of those 97% of cases were true, and you can’t prove a negative. We can’t operate a society where you are guilty until proven innocent, as admittedly broken as the system is.
What is your solution then pal? just carry on and pretend like rape isn’t pretty much decriminalised?
What’s your point? It’s still innocent until proven otherwise no?
by suggesting that unless there’s a prosecution, it is a non story, is siding on the side of the perpetrator rather than the victim
BBC has found out about employment
I assume Player X is Partey?
it’s good the BBC are highlighting this issue im sure they’ve never employed or enabled sex offenders to operate under their watch…
whataboutism is your answer, ffs
Naturally some MP dives in with the arbitrary ‘role models’ tag, so as to conjur a stick to batter footballers with, just like during covid. I don’t doubt that some footballers are shits, but unless they are convicted I don’t see a story here.
Manchester United are playing footballers facing abuse claims. Fixed your title.
Man united are actually the only team who binned off an abuser, got rid of greenwood
I didn’t realise United represents 7 of the current 20 prem teams.
LoL of your starting 11, how many are you ignoring the abuse of? Oh…
Disgusting article by the bbc. Innocent until proven guilty. What they are suggesting should happen in these situations is incredibly dangerous.
Innocent until proven guilty only means you cannot yet have your freedom taken away.
It doesn’t mean that you can tie the system in knots in an attempt to intimidate or pressurize women out of coming forward.
Small depressing problem: assuming all the men are innocent means that you’re assuming all the women are guilty
Is one the Arsenal rapist?
The manager one is easy to work out, it could only be one of three.
Why one of three?
To all those here saying or supporters “innocent until proven guilty”, would you say the same thing in the context of PL’s investigation into City as well ?
If you were as innocent as you’d like to pretend then surely you’d let the premier league see your books
This are such completely different things it’s actually a pretty grim strawman.
Yet they threw the book at toney for doing what all fans do and ran with a False headline to make it sound worse haha
