That’s gotta hurt. 😣
Yeah, it´s generally pretty sad how many of the flying dragons get “used up” in El Mercenario. Segrelles treats them as aircraft, not characters. This becomes obvious in the aerial combat scenes in El Mercenario, which often resemble WW2 style dogfights and when a dragon is hit and goes down. The spray of blood often looks just like the smoke that would come out of a plane that falls after getting hit. Segrelles also was a total geek about models of fighter planes, to a degree that he did not just buy model plane kits but instead created his own from authentic materials like wood and aluminum.
Wow, very interesting.
I’ll have to pay more attention, my next read-through.I recommend the german collectors edition published by Splitter. It has not only the most beautiful print but also quite personal making off sections at the end of each volume. You could easily snip and drop those into an online image to text converter and then feed them into deepl. Sounds more cumbersome than it is, in fact it just takes a few clicks.
Oh gosh, I tried that with some Italian and Dutch stuff this past summer and hated it.
I don’t know if I told you before, but part of the symptoms of this disease is that my wrists, fingers, feet and back get sore very easily. It’s part of why (even when I have a desk monitor) I can only really sit for about 20min at a time before being in pain. Combine that with being low energy and it’s a total PITA. So most of the time I have to lie in bed and use my left hand for mouse, since my right is usually too sore.
Not trying to complain too unnecessarily, but I would not recommend this disease, lol. Anyway, thanks for the rec! Maybe a ~year from now if/when my French is ‘good enough,’ I can try working on German and check out the special editions you speak of. ^^
Johnny my dude, just let me know when you reread El Mercenario and I will then gladly translate those making offs and send them to you, no problem.
Wait wait wait… you’re saying “El Mercenario?”
Hell’s bell’s, Nico, let’s just read it in Spanish! :D
Fuck French & German, lol.
Nein, bitte! ¡Mi español es muy, muy malo! XD
