From the article (let the enshitification continue!)…

“The biggest difference is going to be in economy because:

    • They’ll be removing seatback entertainment screens
    • A greater proportion of seats will be regular coach without extra legroom
    • And even regular coach seats will have less legroom on the aircraft than today
    • They’re even removing a galley – passengers won’t be fed as much either!”

To be fair, seatback screens are kind of pointless. Alaska Airlines gives hundreds of free movies and shows for free if you use a device while on their in-flight wifi network. I’m surprised that more airlines don’t do that.

It isn’t that surprising. Most US Airlines are finding that they can’t fill premium seats; it has been a drive to the bottom. Providing upgrades to those with status isn’t as worth it, especially as the business traveler market dries up.

Doesn’t help that the product sucks. Delta CEO giving supreme lip service about the desire for their “premium product” or whatever, then the product is like an aging slightly larger seat, sometimes broken screen, and acceptable food or drink. All the while nerfing the already pretty mid reward program.

US companies continue to do whatever they want because US consumers will lie down and take almost anything. Delta did overplay their hand and walked some of it back, but it was still an overall significant nerf.
