Youtuber “The Sword and the Pen Reflections” has reignited the internet debate on the question of why the original Avatar creators left the Netflix project 4 years ago.

In multiple comments, she claims that “if they stayed and got their way” there would have been “such fundamental changes that certain main characters and world building elements were unrecognizable from the original”.

“Sometimes writers want to change their own story, want to undo things they made that were great, but in their opinion were not what they originally wanted.”

Other people chimed in saying they have received similar information from within the industry. “The irony of the reason the creators left contrary to what people actually believe is that they actually wanted to change a lot more, but Netflix actually didn’t want to take that risk and wanted to stay closer to the source material, and on top of that the creators were offered control to a new studio to help them continue in the direction of the animated series which they are working on now, so things just aligned well for them”, claims someone called omotaraibiloyetwentyninete6279.

People also have made the claim that “Mike and Bryan don’t like doing the same thing twice”. However possible this is to being true, there currently is no proof of it.

In another tidbit, the youtuber claims that “if you liked One Piece and Wednesday, Avatar is being managed by the same people. Not the people who did Witcher.” An IMDB lookup doesnt confirm this, as I didnt find anyone working on multiple of these shows in the producing department.

Yeah I suspect they were going to make it more mature, judging by the maturity curve between atla, Korra, and the comics. My 8yo is pretty hyped for this. Let’s just keep it the same as the animated series please.

Honestly I think upping the maturity to the level of Korra (but not beyond that) could have been interesting creatively. I don’t know how it would have played out without drastically altering some of the characterisations—Aang especially. And that’s something I really wouldn’t have wanted to see happen.
