Junior doctors are getting shockingly shafted for what I’d assume is a high paying jon

The salaries of the medical profession with the exception of highly specialised roles in the NHS are practically criminal. We had people bang pots and pans for them during COVID but the second they asked for a raise the only thing the hive mind could output was cricket noises and awkward coughs.

Same thing here in Canada (although doctors are pretty well paid here). In Ontario the government actually capped pay raises for public health workers (and other public sector workers) at 1% during the pandemic, when our jobs were getting harder and busier, and inflation started going through the roof. We’re easily a decade behind where we should be if not more. And in our case, it’s not even legal to strike.

Just some corrections here, Bill 124 (the 1% cap on wage increases) was thrown out because it was deemed unconstitutional and strikes are not illegal, Doug Ford tried to make them illegal, but quickly backed down when he faced a general strike. However his actions have definitely put union bargaining behind and they have a lot of catching up to do.

Doug Ford’s game plan is and has always been the privatization of medical services in Ontario. At this point I’m certain he’s purposely trying to make our health care fail so he can push through privatization.

Residents get paid beans in most parts of the world, from what colleagues have shared with me. But if you stick it out, you can absolutely make bank.

Yeah but (AFAIK) you’re a resident for only for 3-5 years (in most of the world) whereas junior doctors are when you’re 8-12 years out of med school. Pretty shitty. I could be misunderstanding this though.
