Woman with a Parasol – Madame Monet and Her Son, sometimes known as The Stroll (French: La Promenade) is an oil-on-canvas painting by Claude Monet from 1875. The Impressionist work depicts his wife Camille Monet and their son Jean Monet in the period from 1871 to 1877 while they were living in Argenteuil, capturing a moment on a stroll on a windy summer’s day.

Camille Doncieux was Monet’s first wife. She bore two sons and died in 1879. She features in many works by Monet, Manet and Renoir; notably Camille(woman in a green dress)

In NJ, in “Grounds for Sculpture” there is quite good reproduction of the hill with flowers and the sculpture of the woman with the child. It is quite secluded place too next to the pond, that I am sure Monet would love to paint too.

Nice context! I haven’t properly checked out Monet’s work and history, so that was nice.

I always try to do a good job on adding context, but I fear only ~10% of my readers check it out. Oh well. We’ve only been around eight months, so… yeah.

Hey I grew up everyday seeing this painting in my parent’s livingroom! They saw it in Paris back in the day and bought a reproduction from a painter there. I feel like a lot of paintings were “boring” to kids but not impressionists, even at like 6 years old I was quite blown away by Monet’s wild brush strokes up close they looked like waves!

I’ve since seen the original with my parents as well as a lot of impressionists over the years. They’re quite lovely to see in person. Degas is my favorite.
