Israeli intelligence sources reveal use of ‘Lavender’ system in Gaza war and claim permission given to kill civilians in pursuit of low-ranking militants
We (the US) have had these kind of AIs for years now. It’s not a shock that Israel also has this tech. It is, however, awful to see that it’s every bit as bad as the people who’ve been paying attention were expecting. I’m also really curious about is if Israel is using the unhinged AIs* that the DOD was pushing for about five years ago.
*Unhinged AI is an industry term for an AI that doesn’t need human approval for a kill decision. If the US is using this, they’re not admitting to it, but the first known unhinged AI kill already happened in 2022 or 23, I want to say in Yemen, but it wasn’t one of ours. Odds are, though, if other folks are using it, we (and our allies) are too.
