You’re right that probably none of us will find themselves at an event with Kamala Harris in it, but this is very much a widespread issue in the queer community and not isolated to govt events. White (non-immigrant, non-disabled) queers can be especially insufferable, because they have a sense that due to their experience as a queer person, they understand all forms of oppression and have an inherent connection to all other oppressed people. That’s obviously not strictly untrue in a sense that all our struggles are connected, but the white privilege invites a lack of effort to understand exactly in what way they are and are not connected, and leads to white queers doing racism pretty often.
