I think the thought process is that Trump will definitely win now no matter who runs against him, so it’s better to let Joe go down to defeat than getting the stink of loserdom on any other Democrat who could’ve taken his place. They’re throwing in the towel and letting Biden lose, which says a lot about their seriousness about “the most important election in our lifetimes.”

A candidate that makes people sad when he speaks and can barely read a teleprompter vs. A charismatic liar who just raised a fist in the air in defiance in front of the flag after getting shot.

If Biden wants to win he should be implementing his new progressive 100 day plan before the election instead of lying about doing something after.

  • my read is the establishment wants a “Goldilocks” level of excitement and interest in politics at a given time. not too hot, not too cool.

nobody wanting to vote for anybody was a bit too cool. not enough donations, antipathy to commercials. disinterest isn’t distracting enough. biden decaying on live TV gave things a shot in the arm as conspiracy narratives and contested convention with possibilities swirling, but the excitement was still contained.

somebody taking a shot at a presumed nominee was the porridge bubbling over. can’t be having public violence against that class, gotta pull the pot off the stove and get it back under control.

don’t want to ruin the big dinner or for the house to burn down.

“Concerns about Biden’s debate performance faded”

No they didn’t. The media has moved on to a new spectacle. These people think that if the media isn’t reporting it, then people aren’t thinking about it.

They know they won’t beat trump now, so why would they spend power and risk to push a new candidate?
