Clothes for dudes basically comes down to t-shirts and trousers. And for shirts, one’s mostly limited to brands, bands, and sports teams. Or, even fucking worse, some pithy comment like “not married and happy”, or “have drink, me good”, or whatever the feck people find clever these days. I oftentimes default to the H&M look, as it’s the least corny looking style I see, and that’s not saying much.
Women’s clothes have all these cute tops with no shit written on it. There’s more variation in colours and shape. You can mix it up by having a half top (whatever you call those). Don’t want to wear a top and trousers that day, then wear a dress or a skirt.
Obviously the huge advantage of being a guy is that you can be ugly af, indeed I am an ugly fecking dude, and you’re accepted. I assume it’s harder for women in this regard, let me know if I’m wrong.
Gender for clothes is silly anyway, just wear what you want!
This the the correct answer
Listen they don’t want you to know this but you can just buy women’s clothes. No one’s stopping you. They aren’t going to ask you for a doctor’s note or your estrogen prescription.
Of course, finding women’s clothes that fits us can be pretty hard, just as it is even for cis women who aren’t shaped like an “average” woman.
Skirts are nice though, and they used to be men’s clothes anyway
Worker in the women’s clothing section of the mall: “sorry, you need to submit to a medical check before you buy that cute top”
uhhh uhh umm, wait, you see it’s for my girlfriend, she is very straight, we’re both entirely straight and she exists and she wanted me to buy some clothes for her
Surprisingly gender conservative clothes seller: “Sorry but if you were ‘straight’, you wouldn’t be buying any clothes. You’d be mowing the lawn and watching football. You have been sentenced to a ten hour documentary series on MMA for your crimes.”
If you were straight, sir, you would faint at the mere sight of fabric that soft!
that documentary? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-DoaUyMGPWI
I found a YouTube link in your comment. Here are links to the same video on alternative frontends that protect your privacy:
That said if you do have a girlfriend you can shop together pretending your looking for her, but actually for you, giving the experience of a frisson of excitement from it’s conspiratorial nature. Plus other people nearby just think you’re a good partner.
How thorough is this check? 🥴
Yeah I always enjoy the anecdote about how the ancient Greeks considered the Persians uncivilised because they liked to wear trousers. Greek chads meanwhile going into battle in like your classic white pleated miniskirt to show off super bronzed thighs and like a super cute little linen bodice omg just like so fashion uhuh
HUGE support to the middle aged man looking at women’s shoes next to me the very first time I went out in public in fem clothes.
You just want to dress like a final fantasy character. I want to dress like a castlevania character. We are not the same.
final fantasy character. I want to dress like a castlevania character
Honestly, amazing fashion ideas
I am going to wear so many belts.
you like to play castlevania
I want to wear a brocade longcoat with riding boots, plate armor accents and a sword everywhere I go. Return to tradition
no more half measures walter
All my shirts have nothing written on them. Am I wearing women’s clothes?
Actually yes. I don’t make the rules.
but the emoji guy turns into a woman
I am relatively fastidious about not wearing logos unless i’m being paid or lending my reputation to a cause.
the huge advantage of being a guy is that you can be ugly af
FUCK YEAH BROTHER!
That’s the thing i fucking adore about cross dressing, like, yeah its more practical and everything, but wearing “men’s” clothes just lets me exist as a person first and foremost rather than as an aesthetic performance as women are expected to be. By completely refusing to ever wear makeup or “women’s” clothes or shave i have basically been able to opt out of the race; no one expects me to compete as “a woman” anymore and they seem to measure me on the same scales that they measure my male friends and colleagues, rather than how they judge other women because i just offer 0 data points on that scale. It’s phenomenal.
its like how people say “ur gay lol” and you just go “yes.png” and it takes all the wind out of their sales. Like, you say that I’m ugly and not being a woman correctly? Yeah exactly lmao, deal with it. It’s so freeing.
But yeah, there’s nothing wrong with crossdressing comrade, I wish you the best of luck with it. I’ve been crossdressing everyday of my life since I was 14, and I’m cis too - it’s just nicer to me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. I know that I will never have to dress as a “woman” ever again in my life and its the best possible feeling.
EDIT: But yeah no, to answer your question, is fucking awful for women who do play the game properly. The vast majority of my friends are fucking miserable about their bodies and a few can’t even leave the house without makeup. the pressure for women to be physically appealing is constant and horrendous.
Yeah, one of the reasons I got into historical costuming is that previous eras at least acknowledged that women had to perform aesthetically, and leaned into the artifice. Of course, there is the whole utterly everything else about those eras that makes me glad I don’t live there.
aesthetic performance as women are expected to be
My partner has so many gripes about getting old and ugly (she’s not ugly, BTW). She gets depressed a whole lot over it. No one deserves this shit.
if wearing the same solid-colored t-shirt and pants is good enough for cartoon characters, it’s good enough for me
Professional clothes for men: button down shirt tucked into dress pants
Professional clothes for women: we got dresses, skirts, a billion different variations of pants, we got shorts, we got short sleeve shirts, long sleeve shirts, NO sleeve shirts.
But yeah lemme choose between a fucking blue or white button down shirt and pants. Guy clothes are so fucking boring
I am just being contrarian, but at least I don’t have to think about what to wear when I go to work. And as long as you replace your shirts, trousers, and tie every 2 years, you’re usually the best dressed guy in the office. I am a lot more open to feminine colours now tho. I have shirts and ties that are pink, purple, and red.
Cis women can wear mens clothes, cis men can wear women’s clothing. Personally I find mens or androgynous clothing more comfortable and practical, but every now and again it is nice to wear a cute dress.
But yeah dudes look great in a cute dress. I wish it was more common.
I mean it used to be norm, I don’t care if they called them robes or tunics or togas or kilts, that shit was nice.
I find women’s clothing choices difficult for a different reason. There is style to be had (but I feel mens clothing has styles too, depending, I love greaser and punk fashion), for sure, but it is all very thin fabric and cheap and impractical. If you want to do anything other than sit still and look pretty, it can be frustrating. It can be hard to find women’s clothing with simple things like pockets for example.
Also keep in mind that women had to fight very hard in the past to be able wear things like pants and other clothing considered “mens clothes” without being being sent to a doctor for “hysteria”.
So maybe there will be a day where “women’s clothing” is something that isn’t gendered anymore in the same way pants are now. I hope so.
but it is all very thin fabric and cheap and impractical
Fair enough. I forget this kinda thing.
So maybe there will be a day where “women’s clothing” is something that isn’t gendered anymore
True. It’ll be a positive change.
If you want to do anything other than sit still and look pretty, it can be frustrating.
I love my off the shoulder tops, but holy shit I wore one to wrangle my toddler at a soccer game last night and it was a mistake
dudes look great in a cute dress. I wish it was more common.
More cute twinks is summer dresses please
Leggings opened up an entirely new world to me, as someone who is basically hot any time it’s above 70F
I didn’t even know I was a woman when I started wearing them! I just knew I wanted to not die of heat stroke lol
Leggings are cooler? I did not know this. They look warm to me.
There’s different kinds! Some are warm fleece, some are knitted polyester and it feels like wearing nothing at all~
Hope the reference isn’t too old
Really, really heavily depends on the material. Summer weight wool fabrics don’t really exist anymore, but a good summer wool is mindblowingly superior to cotton or synthetics for leggigns. Linen is also very good for it’s sweat wicking and evaporative properties but it tends to be inelastic and less suitable for leggings, especially if they need to be hard wearing.
I always laugh when I go shopping for clothes online, and I’ll see something that says “glasses for women” or “glasses for men.” It always makes me laugh because I just lack the ability to see clothing, in any capacity, as gendered. I wear whatever I feel like wearing, and I’d say a good portion of it comes off as androgynous as I almost never wear skirts or dresses, but I’ll wear various kinds of clothing, including flannel, sweaters (sometimes with vest, sometimes without), fashionable but casual dark jackets over light button-up shirts, and of course, a wide variety of t-shirts mostly of metal bands and tons of long sweatpants too.
glasses for women" or “glasses for men.”
It’s so unnecessary, except for probably dudes who are paranoid about getting shit from their mates.
That’s just weakness.
Shitting is just male to male communication. They need to shit harder and form a lasting bond over the aforementioned shit.
It’s 35 degrees out. Corporate dress policy says long pants for men but women can wear skirts. At various points I’ve considered claiming to be non binary, claiming Scottish ancestry, and claiming some sort of made up religious belief so that I can wear shorts or a skirt to work.
I might be fully wrong, but working in a “formal dress” environment, women seem to have a lot more flexibility. The trousers and shirts of some are so damn close to weekend wear. The men all have to wear ties and trousers. Fuck, I don’t care. Definitely not complaining that it’s unfair, I have enough real shit to grieve over.
The main downside for women is that some places still mandate or “strongly suggest” high heels, which is a travesty.
Strongly agree. I wonder if it’s the low end of the corporate world, because they’re borderline torture.
I’ve seen enough senior exec level women still wear them so idk if it’s just baked into their brains by the time they reach that level. Honestly there should be labor laws forbidding mandatory high heels for women.
Possibly exec women need to wear them, I have zero knowledge about this. I just see that, in schools, teachers don’t really wear heals, so that’s my reference.
Gawd, if I was a woman, I’d only wear them for dinner party level shit if I could get away with it.
There’s more flexibility in the sense that there are more distinct pieces available, but that choice is still chained to the rigid inflexibility of women’s beauty constraints.
But on the plus side men always get pockets. So many pockets!
It’s unreal how difficult it still is to find nice dresses or skirts with actual pockets and how pockets are also used to justify a lot higher prices. Wtf is it with the way even womens sweaters or other clearly pocket coded clothes like pants still have zero pockets or they have those dumb fake pockets.
I am a cis male and I wear women’s pants and accessories all the time. I don’t really wear stuff like skirts or anything but I would if I had a fit go with it. Doesn’t make a difference to me I’m just chillin with it.
And you are absolutely right, women’s clothing is a lot more interesting in general.
Cool then. I’ll give it a try.
Hell yeah do what you want.
Keep in mind sizing for women is really arbitrary. Michael Kors size 6 jeans fit me great, but a size 6 in other brands damn near cut me in half.
While men don’t have as much choice as women in terms in terms of acceptable clothing, but knowing fashion will open your options tremendously. On top of that, confidence is 75% of looking good.
