Hmm, I’m going to need a source on him renouncing his South African citizenship, because I can’t easily find anything that’d confirm that. I found an interview saying he attended anti-apartheid marches, but weirdly the interviewer says he didn’t want to do military service because of his Quaker upbringing. It’d make more sense that he didn’t want to join because he was anti-apartheid, but either way not wanting to join an apartheid shithole’s army for any reason is obviously based ().
Anyway, I don’t think I’ve ever heard a Dave Matthews Band song, so I have no opinion of their music.
I swear I found that interview by searching, but it didn’t highlight the words (although I use Duckduckgo since it doesn’t force me to do an annoying captcha when connected to a VPN).
Yeah I can’t actually find anything about him renouncing citizenship just him leaving South Africa to avoid being conscripted. My friend sent it to me so I don’t know the level of accuracy.
I didn’t know any of these facts. Im still not a jam band guy but he has my respect.

Well here is your chance
This was the quintessential DMB song when I was growing up
Sorry Dave, this song isn’t bad, but it’s not for me. I still respect you for being anti-apartheid.

This is what was popular on MTV circa 1997

ETA: I actually found an interview with him from 2018 where he says he renounced his citizenship
