Always loved this movie - wonderfully bizarre. And Uma Thurman in one of her first film roles as Venus was life changing :)

She’s not a top level celebrity but I’d say she is known, especially in Canada. And someone can be important without being well known. According to Wikipedia, she has retired from acting but is still writing and directing films.
She won an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for Women Talking (2022), which she wrote and directed. It was also nominated for Best Picture.
