You know the phrase I’ve heard more in the #Fediverse than ANYWHERE else?

“just my 2 cents”

I think this sums up the culture here pretty well. People just LOVE to tell you how you’ve got it wrong. This ESPECIALLY applies to posts that aren’t even TRYING to be opinionated. There is just this vocal contingent (sometimes german? always male) that is hell bent on making sure there isn’t “Someone wrong on the internet”

See if you can help yourself and not critique ;-) I certainly don’t want it

If you don’t want to interact with people, stop posting to social media.

It’s so weird how people just go ahead and discuss things when you post them on a public forum. So weird. If I didn’t know better, I’d think this place was even built with public discussion of ideas in mind, but that would be ridiculous.

    always male

I find it hard to believe people keep saying “just my two cents” and then telling you their gender…

Sounds like you’re making assumptions. And as mad as you are about this, you’re the one being corrected all the time, and it’s hurting your feelings.

Being wrong on the internet isn’t the end of the world, it just means you learned something.

If you get in that mindset, you’ll stop getting upset at people who took a minute to type a comment to help you understand something.

It’s a garbage account, some have been popping up in this community since it’s unmoderated. Account is 2 years old, the only post is this one, the only comment is to yours in this thread.

Nah, it’s people on replacement twitter acting like they did on Twitter.

When viewed from an instance that’s more reddit like, it shows a blank history, but if you click their account name for their instance again it shows you their post history on the Twitter knockoff.

I’m betting the reason they’re so confused is they make posts to instances where they don’t understand how it works.

OP claims to be a boomer ex-google employee, and they’re definitely acting like it. All the other real name accounts are likely their followers from their own instance, which is why they keep tagging people they reply too.

If they weren’t all raging narcissists, it really wouldn’t be that hard to help them understand.

But they think they know everything, which a smart person never does. That’s how people become smart, always being open to learning something.

Boomers as a generation aren’t very good at that. Their entire careers one of the most important things for their success was insisting they’re the smartest in the room and that they’re never wrong.

So after 40 years of that, they literally don’t know how to admit they’re wrong about something, so they haven’t learned anything new in decades.

Nah, just an old rich white dude claiming they can fix everything because they’re an old rich white dude.

Does make this post more ironic, but that’s about all you’re missing.

        No thank you.

If this is how you respond to people helping, there’s a very easy way to make sure that I never spend any more time assisting you. Who knows how much time I’d have wasted in the future if I don’t block you today?

Have fun with your ignorance tho, you seem pretty attached to it.

@givesomefucks@lemmy.world oh my little dude, you are the gift that keeps on giving!

I literally said in my post : “See if you can help yourself and not critique ;-) I certainly don’t want it”

          And you couldn’t help yourself!

Let me try one more time:
IF PEOPLE DON’T ASK FOR HELP… THEN DIDN’T GIVE IT!

          It’s not that hard

Wow. Another techbro who doesn’t ever want anything explained because you know it all.

        Anymore?

I don’t think there’s a limit to how many I can block on here, and it’s easier to get it out of the way now.

@scottjenson@social.coop I think this is another example of the impact of inflation. $0.02 used to get you a measurable (if small) amount of insight.

@scottjenson@social.coop But I’m a white middle-aged CIS male. Surely everybody MUST hear my views on … everything?

    :/

    You’re so right.

@scottjenson@social.coop I tried Threads recently. Maybe my experience there was similar to your (big instance?) experience here.

I used a tag, and boy everybody piled in to tell me what they thought about it. Obviously without reading the thread for context.

And so I’m thinking these are really social media problems. Or big media problems.

The only way to avoid them is to go small within the large.

Find a few friends, chat about things.
