lemmy.world doing god’s work here. We need more people to squash these malicious actors, piracy can’t be allowed to continue unhindered.

That’s a very good point actually, children should not be exposed to illegal or inappropriate content.

I mean, it’s going to continue unhindered, but it will be less visible to new .world members, more underground, say…submarine piracy 🏴‍☠️ 😄 arghh

They owe you nothing, stop sucking corporations balls. You won’t be compensated for your “efforts”.

Wow, why go into such length. Seems like I struck a sensible cord. Who said I’m breaking the law. We are just talking here, nothing is happening. Some content is not even available in some part of the world. Not everyone lives in the USA.

Because piracy is also morally wrong, it takes money away from creators.

If you’re sitting here making an argument favoring piracy I bet you’re definitely one of the ones doing it, why else would you be sitting here defending it if you didn’t have a stake in this illegal trade.

Morally wrong… Boy, that’s a bad take. A recent study by the Video Game History Foundation has shown that 87% of games are not available meaning they can’t be bought legally from the copyrights holders (used/resales doesn’t profit the corporations).

              [Source]

E.g most NES/SNES games are not available legally on Nintendo own service. Should these pieces of art be lost to time? (because yes, I do think they should be considered an art medium) No, that’s why emulation/piracy is a necessity to ensure games preservation.

Used copies are the only way to do it without violating copyright law, it doesn’t matter how inconvenient it is.

The Citra Dev team very much approve of my stance on this, you need real hardware to dump firmware and to own the games to dump them.

Also those are video games, quit whining like they’re some amazing painting, they’re a commercial product, not a work of art.
