I know it’s been said often but if you remove “lord of the rings” from the title I would have never guessed. It looks very generic.

first I’ve heard of this show, so forgive me if you’ve heard this before. But. Aren’t all LOTR stories generic, because “generic fantasy” (as we know it today) was defined by LOTR in the first place?

At least, any LOTR story that would blend with the original texts/movie. Peter Jackson’s even on the poster, though IDK what his relationship with this work will be. I’m sure you could make an out-there story set in middle-earth, but I’m skeptical that it would be recognizably LOTR.

Depends on if you want it to be recognizably LOTR ofc

LOTR has a certain style to it that makes it iconic, even the hobbit movies and spinoffs like Shadow of Mordor makes me think “Ahh, this is middle earth”. The trailer for war of the rohirrim feels like it could’ve been literally any fantasy anime movie.

Honestly, I’m kind of excited for it to not just look like the live action films or well-known artwork got converted to animation. I love LOTR and I love the films and other interpretive works we have but I’m definitely interested in a fresh take. Hoping this is good.

How can it be IMAX? Isn’t the whole point of (real) IMAX movies to be captured on analog IMAX cameras and projected on analog film?

Can’t wait to see it btw, seems nice

Isn’t the whole point of (real) IMAX movies to be captured on analog IMAX cameras and projected on analog film?

There are less than 100 IMAX 15/70 analog projectors in the world right now. The majority of IMAX releases are now digital. Plenty of movies that were never filmed for IMAX to begin with are released in IMAX. You still get a bigger image and slightly louder sound, even if it doesn’t make artistic sense.

And hey, if it means getting more 2D animation in theaters, I’m all for it.
