I learned about this from the spaghetti western wikipedia. According to that article, Zapata westerns are:

often interpreted as a leftist critique of the typical Hollywood handling of the Mexican Revolution, and of imperialism in general.

Which, having an interest in that period of history, was quite an intriguing concept.

Overall I enjoyed the film, despite sometimes having some poor dubbing here and there. It’s low budget, B-movie action hero stuff done fairly well, with some standout scenes.

This director and character (the mercenary) appears to have been the inspiration for Quentin Tarantino’s Bounty hunter in Django Unchained, which is another great movie that I think was posted here a while back!
