      The article is vague so it’s possible the the dude was objecting on a good point like the school not being big enough for future growth, or being in a shitty place.

      The way the sentence is written sure sounds like he was just objecting about building a school though.

        I remember a nearby small town the next state over proposed closing their decaying, poorly constructed 70s era library with a new one, only to have it voted down by the town because it the “fiscally responsible thing to do” was renovate the old one.

        It’s costed them like twice as much now.

            Honestly? I think some people outright don’t want their local community to be improved in any way and actively prefer things to be falling apart out of some sense of pride for independence.
