This shows some pretty typical historical non-understanding. The Japanese didn’t just bomb Pearl Harbor, they also attacked a whole lot of other places. The island hopping campaign was a proportional response to the Imperial Japanese war machine, which had been doing its own island hopping campaign - Douglas MacArthur famously had to retreat in the wake of their initial advance, saying “I shall return.”

Not to mention that the places Japan was attacking were not Japanese lands. They were not repelling foreign invaders.
