I think 2 things would improve things:
allow a small amount of control over the direction of the ragdoll, similar to games like goatsimulator and such to help prevent getting ragdolled into death pits and losing all your sample and equipment.
grant a small window of ragdoll immunity (not damage immunity to be clear) after being ragdolled and after landing from a reenforce to stop endless ragdoll loops
