A trove of new records released in the federal election-interference case against former President Donald Trump described how money was spent on Trump’s “Stop the Steal” rally near the White House on Jan. 6, 2021.
…
The newly released documents also show that an unnamed organization budgeted as much as $3 million on the Jan. 6 rally and related events, including for bringing VIP guests and protesters to Washington and ad buys for a show of force.
Native New Yorker here.
Trump was a fixture in the local media since the 1980s. Back in the day, first wife Ivana was the star of the show and Donnie was the clown who carried her bags.
A local satire magazine, Spy, used to prank him mercilessly. They called him the cheapest millionaire in NY after he cashed a check for 13 cents [less than the cost of a pay phone call]
In 2015 I told a freind of mine that Donnie was actually running for the nomination. She told me that she couldn’t be bothered to think about Donald Trump.
Funny thing about that…

Not blaming you or your friend for Trump, but reading the book that quote came from made me a lot more engaged in politics on a day-to-day basis.
I should have mentioned that my friend is very political. It’s just that the idea of a chump like him rising to power was beyond our imagination.
Trump lost his home town by 90% of the vote. New Yorkers are a pretty diverse lot; getting 90% of them to agree on anything takes a lot.
Here’s a story about how he got himself hated by the city’s elites.

Also, thumbs up for any Heinlein reference
Any Heinlein reference? You sure?
Stranger in a Strange Land
I actually had to quit reading his book Friday because the misogyny was over the top.
You remember the parodies Z-100 played? “Trump’s in a jam” when he got divorced, a parody of “pump up the jam”? Guy’s been a clown for 40 goddamn years.
