      It’s rare but it happens that after a candidate gets the nomination and dies - he stays on the ballot.

      But I wonder there’s ever been a case where a candidate dies before the nomination is decided, gets the nomination despite being dead, and stays on the ballot. Was/is that even possible?

        The party would eventually have to produce a living person to hold the office, but I bet they could get away with nominating a corpse. Who’s going to stop them? The Democrats would happily let them do it, thinking “surely we can beat a dead guy, right?”
