I smoke weed alot out of a bong but have been getting frustrated with how much I have to clean it. I also notice that I use a lot of my supply and was wondering how much weed the Volcano saves you? TIA!
Oh dude, this is my time to shine, please listen to my story. I bought my volcano about 18 years ago after watching this really stupid TV show that had a segment about the best way to get stoned. They said something like joints get you 25-35% of the THC, bongs are 55-65%, vaporizers are 85-95%. I said shit, I’m not giving up smoking weed any time soon so I might as well invest in my future. I bought it for like $450 at a sketchy open market in LA. I parked the Porsche I was driving behind a bunch of men in cowboy clothes drinking beer on their pickup truck in the middle of the day. Everyone was super nice and my car still had all 4 wheels when I returned.
The Volcano is fucking great. You can see how strong your dose is going to be, there’s no smoke, it cools down in the bag, it never irritates my throat, and when smoking with people everyone gets to hit fresh greens from the bag. The thing is built by the Germans so it’s a fucking tank, and not the kind that freeze up in the Russian winter. In the 18 years I’ve had it, the only thing that broke is the air switch that was easily and cheaply replaced and one screw rattled out and disappeared.
As for efficiency, I bought a large ziplock bag full of weed in February of 2018. After sharing a lot with friends, I finally ran out like 2 months ago. For those too stoned to do the math, my volcano made my bag of weed last for over 5 fucking years. I would easily make 1 bowl last about a week before packing a new one, smoking once every day.
I can’t recommend the Volcano enough. The only downside is that it’s not portable and you have to wait 6 minutes for it to heat up, but that’s never been an issue. I bought the Crafty from Storz & Bickel too and it’s really great for a portable device. Please take my advice. Save up the money and get yourself a Volcano, you won’t regret it!
My handheld vaporizer isn’t nearly that efficient, but it is still crazy how efficient is is compared to smoking. Awhile back I was given a pickle jar full of bud, and it took my partner and I about 2 months to get through 1/5th of it. We ended up giving the rest to a friend who mainly rolls joints, and he burnt through all of it in under two weeks. I was genuinely shocked when he told me he had used it all already.
Tell me about it dude, your stash literally going up in smoke. It’s 2023 people, use technology instead of paper!
To be efficient with the Volcano, I recommend the dosing capsules and the easy valve dosing capsule adapter available on the Storz & Bickel website. With this you load about the same amount you would in a bong. I run 3 bags off one dose capsule and as another commenter said you can turn the vaped product into edibles. Easy one is putting it on some pb on a cracker. These capsules are also used in the crafty, mighty vaporizers and there is an adapter available for the plenty vaporizer as well.

You can take the vaped product to make edibles, so you can double up on it a bit.
But for the bong, you use an ashcatcher? Helps keep the main body clean.
This is what I too. Collect the vaped bud in a freezer bag and then extract the remaining THC into edibles. Everyone loves them, it tends to be a strong and gentle high.
Varies entirely from person to person. Many people have a hard time making the switch to dry flower vaporizing because their bodies are accustomed to the toxic cocktail of carcinogenics and carbon monoxide yielding an instant euphoric headrush and couch-lock.
Dry vaporizing takes time to hit you (5-10 minutes) so that can be hard for many people who expect a more instantaneous affect.
Additionally unlike smoking where you get everything at once, with dry vaporizing we use different temperatures to release different medical benefits from the flower.
I work in the industry over the past decade and have handled countless dry flower vaporizers (literally lost count around four dozen). While I enjoy the Volcano, I don’t find it the most efficient vaporizer on the market.
For a novice beginner on a budget, I often suggest the Dynavap Vapcap - it can be tricky to use (so watch videos first!!) but it packs a hell of a good punch for the money, and it’s a great transition for people who smoke regularly.
Dry vaporizing takes time to hit you (5-10 minutes)
I primarily use a vaporizer, and this isn’t really true in my experience. Usually, I start feeling it within 5-20 seconds of taking the first hit, and it ramps up in intensity over the next 20 seconds to a minute. If I didn’t feel anything for 5-10 minutes, I’d be concerned.
Haha I’m more so talking about heavy smokers who are looking for something - it can take 5 minutes for the affects to really be noticeable to them.
I got a lot of confusing info when they were figuring out vaping liquid carts was bad. Does dry herb vaping not have this problem?
Vape carts were bad because they had lots of chemicals additives like vitamin E activate that stuck around in your lungs and killed you. Dry herb vaping doesn’t have those sketchy chemicals so it is safe.
None. The damn volcano god demands all of it, and if I don’t make the sacrifice, he destroys my village. 😮💨
Not the Volcano, but I’ve had multiple vaporizers: Magic Flight, Arizer Extreme Q, Crafty+
I never got the same high with them and end up using similar amounts chasing the high. For me a one hitter ended up more efficient (never owned a bong). Interestingly, dabs worked for me which seems odd as it’s very similar
The reason for this is because combustion releases a toxic cocktail of carcinogenics and carbon monoxide. Many people tend to associate those affects with those from the herb itself.
The reality is that desktop vaporizers can cook very efficiently when they are preheated and loaded properly.
The problem is that one will never fully appreciate the affects from dry vaporizing unless they fully detox from combustion by not smoking (vaporizing exclusively) for a few weeks to month. I made the switch to dry flower vaporizing a decade ago and I still smoke socially with friends, but I hate it - the smell, the taste, the feeling, etc.
Dabs are concentrated and extract faster than most dry flower vaporizers which is why they can often work, however they can also kill one’s tolerances when used in excess. I prefer dry flower vapes to avoid killing my tolerances (I also switch up my daily driver two or three times a year to avoid building up a tolerance to the same device over time).
This is why I dug out my Crafty+
After dabbing I also find joints have lost their charm. Just waiting out after a wisdom tooth extraction!
Heck yeah! I’ve been spoiled by dry vaping to the point where I can’t even handle the taste of smoking anymore. I always get pissed when I accidentally combust with my Vapcap or other butane powered device.
I love my Crafty+ It provides exceptionally smooth rips without any mods (between the Crafty and Mighty, I actually chose the Crafty because it’s more pocket-friendly and has a smaller cooling unit allowing me to still enjoy some of the heat from the vapor). However I am usually a flavor chasing snob, especially when trying out a new strain so my crafty rarely gets used these days. However thanks to my position in the industry, I have many devices to choose from so I’m always cycling through device.
Careful with that tooth extraction! Be sure to let things heal fully before using any vaporizers, or you could risk a “dry socket” which is something extremely unpleasant from what I understand. For now, edibles only! haha.
When I switched from bongs and bubblers to the Volcano I probably saved about 25% right out of the gate. Then later on when I realized you need less in the chamber than it looks like I saved a bit more. I was at about 1.5oz/month back when I was combusting, now after 10 years of almost exclusively vaping I consume about 1oz/month.
I don’t know about the Volcano specifically, but I do know I have noticed a huge increase in effect and efficiency since I switched to a dry herb vape. When I make I smoke I use wayyyy more grind than I do for the vape. It’s also nice having the freedom to “adjust” my high and tailor it to what I want out of my strain for that day. And like other users have said you get the bonus if the ABV which does a really good job of getting you stoned.
Not a volcano, but a Firewood. I’d say I get three times as effective vape as I did smoke out of my pipe. I’m just guessing tho. Then there’s the edibles. I have so much abv and budder. I have GI issues so I don’t really do edibles. I have a friend who I supply with budder she’s got a few pounds waiting for her.
I have a pax and find I use weed about the same/slightly faster than a bong. The pax works better with full bowls and sometimes one isn’t satisfying enough so I’ll end up using more weed than I would from a couple small bong rips.
Edibles with the already vaped bud is nice but kind of a long process to water cure it and make into edibles
I use an Arizer Extreme Q with my bong and it uses about the same amount of weed. But it’s much easier to clean my bong since it doesn’t really get dirty. Just a quick alcohol wash occasionally to keep it shiny. My lungs also feel better using it than just taking bong rips. I imagine the Volcano is somewhat similar (but much more expensive).
