Someone reported an article in my community for the reason of “test” which is a bit frustrating that they didn’t do so on an actual test thread or, at the very least, give me a warning, but the only option I had was to click the red check mark which “resolved” it… is this only to clear the report or is me “resolving” it taking action against the post
Looks like All of the actual moderation is done with the menu on the comment/post, so marking it resolved probably just clears the report.
That’s kind of what I was thinking as well but even the link you sent to doesn’t really address things from the moderator standpoint. It talks about sending the report, and it talks about certain actions you can take… but when I click “take action” and it clears from me does it also clear for other moderators as well? I assume so but still just an assumption.
I totally get that we’re all figuring stuff out as we go along here being early adopters but one thing that Lemmy as a whole really should focus on is a specific moderation document that goes through things from the moderators point of view instead of an overview or from the end user’s point of view.
The main question that still remains is if there are running tallies of reports, etc… or when that report is cleared is it completely forgotten about. Maybe action isn’t being taken but is there a “reputation” being built somewhere?
Thanks for the offer but I think my main concerns are addressed. I’m just curious if there is something in the backend (that neither you or I can see) that keeps a “reputation”… For example, if a user gets a ton of reports does the instance admin (or even other admins) see that tally that might come into judgement in a future case. It’s really just curiosity at this point. Maybe @sunaurus@lemm.ee has some input.
Hey, there is nothing to worry about, there is no such reputation system in the backend currently. I’m sure if one was ever added, then the system would also account for fake reports - otherwise, it would be a pretty useless system.
Good to know. At the current scale a “reputation” would be overkill but as things scale up I can see it being helpful. That was where my clicking the check mark raised questions (was I saying that I took action where I should have ignored it in some other fashion).
Thanks for the input… Just trying to learn all I can on this journey and I sometimes read too deeply into something 😂
