  • I’m pretty sure it’s that last one. Who has time to protest and fight back if taking time off means you can’t pay bills and rent? Now you’re homeless. Great.

I’m completely disgusted by our country and how it treats us. We aren’t even citizens anymore. We’re “consumers.”

Citizens have human rights. Consumers only have the right to buy the products we’re told to. I’d love to see an end to the use of the word consumer. It perfectly summarizes how corporations view us and i hate it.

  • I think healthy skepticism when it comes to the government is good. Especially if people want transparency. Holding them accountable for abuses is even better, but has been less than ideal in practice over the years.

Unfortunately, people tend to skip healthy skepticism and dive right into conspiracy driven paranoid delusions, and lack of government accountability does feed into that mindset. Combine that with Maga propaganda, fox News, and other extremist media and we’ve got a shit show.

  • I got a “retrowave” in mint green. It’s dumb, uses a turn dial to set the cook time, stands on little feet like it’s from Rocko’s Modern Life, and looks like it’s from the 50’s. Have a matching toaster and eventually want a matching fridge.

It’s been 4 years and no issues which is more than I can say about a lot of other new appliances we’ve gotten for the house.

For dumb appliances with a fun aesthetics look up 'retro (name of appliance here) and you’ll get all the brands who make stuff like that. It’s the only way I’ve been able to avoid smart garbage so far.

  • I worked at dunkin while I was in college and it didn’t matter how often you took the trash out during the summertime, it was constantly overflowing from people cleaning out their cars into it.

Not even kidding, one day I was on break outside and watched someone fill the freshly emptied can 3/4 full with all their fast food trash. As soon as the trashcan is empty people take the opportunity to clean out their cars. It’s fucking weird.

Np! I couldn’t find any evidence that any species of tree use their leaves to prevent new ones from growing too close.

The lack of light, water, and nutrients would kill and new saplings all on its own.

That might be an old hypothesis that later got disproven, but most people don’t keep up on forestry sciences so that’s understandable!

  • I really love your advice and how you interact with the world.

My one piece of advice to you would be to keep sharing it and encouraging others down your path of being willing to help.

Unfortunately too many women have run into these situations, asked for help and were told they were over reacting and making problems. Next time it happens they hesitate to ask or dont bother. That’s not your fault, or anyone’s fault that is willing to help. Just trying point out why some women might not go for that option right away. Especially if they are unsure if the guy in question is threat or not.

Your attitude and willingness to help is refreshing though, and its a good reminder that there are people in the world willing to help so thanks for reminding me of that. Keep being awesome and a force of positivity in the world.

I’m not directly aware of any trees that do that, but it honestly wouldn’t surprise me if that was true for at least one species.

Most trees that drop seeds have methods of getting them away from the parent tree. Maple trees have little helicopter twirlies, oak trees have animals carry them off, some trees grow new ones from their roots called suckers.

I’ll try to look it up later because now I’m curious. I’ll update here if I find anything interesting about trees dropping leaves to prevent new ones growing too close.

I don’t think my arborist textbook said anything about that specifically, but I’ll double check there first.

  • I prefer when all people occupying the road, whether its a pedestrian, cyclist, motorcyclist, car, or horse rider be as visible as possible.

Its why I refuse to drive a gray or silver car. They blend in with the pavement at certain times in the am and pm and if it’s raining really hard they disappear. In a lot of ways they are worse than black cars.

What’s wrong with making sure you are visible? Why is that something to make fun of? (I’m not asking you directly, I just don’t get the joke in the ad.)

  • Ours had a really sluggish menu with ads until we disconnected it from the internet. Now it has zero ads and the menu to switch sources is as fast as it should be.

I wish I had never connected it to begin with though. I didn’t know better. It used to default to whatever console was on, but it updated and no longer does that for some shitty reason. So I have to go through the menu and manually switch sources now. Probably to make sure I saw all the ads before using my playstation. Assholes.

  • What the actual fuck. This is beyond words, and I hope those two women heal quickly. They didn’t deserve that.

The wastes of human flesh that did this and cheered for it need to be jailed and put on a list like sex offenders. I know there’s problems with that system but there’s gotta be some kind of action people can do to help trans folks stay safe. A hate crime list would be a way to start.

I don’t know about the legality of assembling one outside official channels, but people can pressure their states to make one since the infrastructure is already there.

  • My husband is brown, and had a cop intentionally try to antagonize him into responding emotionally so the cop could violently arrest him.

Used aggressive language, threats to bring him to the station, veiled threats alluding to a guy who had been paralyzed and left in a coma by police the week before. It was sick and fucked up. It left my husband literally shaking afterwards. I’ve never seen him scared like that. I hate that cop with every fiber of my being. My husband is a gentle, kind, and loving person just trying to get his car fixed.

His offense that got him pulled over? Going to the mechanic to get his car fixed so it would pass emissions and we could update the registration.

To folks reading this, cops will absolutely try to antagonize you and escalate the situation. Don’t let them. It gives them every excuse to shoot you and get away with it.

Cops can go fuck themselves to death.

  • My game library was what was holding me back too. Now I just have to see if animationdesk runs on linux and I’ll be all set make the switch.

If it doesn’t I don’t know what I’ll do. I haven’t found any other animation programs built primarily around onion skinning. I don’t need AI to create the tweens for me. I just want a bare bones program that let’s me do everything by hand.

I’ll have to check when I get out of work today and if it’s all good I’ll probably start researching installation processes this weekend. I don’t know much about Linux, but I guess I’m about to learn
