  • Is that a rarity on hexbear? I do think people here can downplay the danger of him too much but hopefully not to that extent. He did heinous stuff to immigrants last time and no doubt will again.

As for op ya, I don’t have nay advice. Someone at the People’s Forum talk earlier tonight talked about immigration, so I’d maybe check it out and see if any names pop up for organizations you can look into to help you out.

  • Idk, maybe it’s possible from the super higher ups who decide the overall strategy, but I know the on-the-ground people tried their hardest. I know a couple Dem organizers and I feel so bad for them, they put their all into this campaign. I don’t think they’re able to be radicalized (they’re not like Mayor Pete here on hexbear, doing it for a job, they’re dyed in the wool libs), but if they are, I’m going to wait awhile before offering my opinions. They’re in a bad way right now and just likely to lash out until some time passes and the emotions calm down.

I find it easier to believe that they thought they could go right and get more people put off by Trump’s rudeness. They saw Biden’s victory in 2020 and Dem victories in 2022 and thought that was the right strategy to win. And seeing the US right now, I get it. Turns out, it’s a super racist place begging for fascism.

  • Yes, the voters suck, but that’s all of them, not just the Trump ones. Every voter has been ignoring a genocide going on for the last year that their country is arming. That should’ve been the first sign that this country and the people in aren’t good, that the people are selfish, that they are primed for fascism.

You dont care about the Palestinians? Well the Trump voters don’t care about their mothers, daughters, wives, immigrants, minorities, or trans people. It’s the exact same strain of selfishness, just evolved, but it comes from that same seed. Sucks, doesn’t it?

  • Huh never realized it but this will be a great lesson in siege mentality if I ever have to explain communist states to people in the future.

"That and fear panic you feel about losing your way of life if Trump takes over? Ya, that’s the feel all these AES states feel, and even worse since the US has done it before to other similar states and keeps trying. You can see why they have one party or restrict press freedoms from right-wing or foreign sources or ban politicians who try to start coups now, right? Doesn’t seem like such a bad idea now, does it? "

  • I mean, they have better economic policies but only because Trump’s economic policies would actively make things worse.

The problem is that their economic policies are neither non-existent or complicated incrementalist means-tested shit (tax breaks for minority middle-class, small business owners with two kids and a successful business in an undeserved neighborhood for 3 years; or debt relief for students in a private college that had lost accreditation and had a Pell grant or in a public service job or non-profit for ten years, etc). Turns out having better than a negative economic policy can only get you so far.

  • May I suggest casual hangouts for a bit before you jump into more tense, drama-filled political organizations then? It might be easier to start with a less stressful environment.

Try meetup.com, FB events, or local subreddits and look for local board game groups, hiking or biking groups, co-ed sports leagues, cocktail networking events, wine tasting tours, book clubs, little things like that. It’s easier in my opinion if there’s another activity like board games to help facilitate the social interaction. I also recommend finding hobbies or shows you’re interested in and going to conventions based on them. You might have to travel a bit if you don’t live near a big city. Going back to school can also help you meet people. For me, I’d also go to local bars and places every now and then, even by myself, and look for flyers for game nights or other things they may have.

I know it doesn’t answer your other general questions about what organizing or reading theory means, but since one of your big worries seems to be in engaging in social interaction, that’s probably where I’d recommend starting. If I’m off base, sorry about that, just trying to help.
