When I was a gullible teenager I would have sided with the WWF, but since I’m an adult now, I realise it’s a lobby group with an agenda, and they are just fear-mongering.
Some of the recent climate change articles are getting rather nutty. They are talking about BBQ and gas cooking as if it was a bad thing, and in an article about housing, one author claimed that climate change would alter the housing market, by destroying houses in floods. They cannot go five minutes without injecting their climate change theory into everything.
If moderators are allowed to delete this video and its interviews, that makes them as bad as Reddit and the Christchurch Press. I suppose it’s inappropriate for Adam Nuttal and Omar Nabi to question whether Tarrant was given special treatment from the police, to expedite his firearms license, because this suggests that the government is involved in a conspiracy. That’s too bad. If a conspiracy is happening in the government then we should be talking about it, not helping them to cover it up.
This is a New Zealand instance and the video that I shared is related to issues of public interest that are highly important for New Zealanders.
My website stats are not that great even after all my effort. I’m glad I gave it a go and set an example, because some people supported me. One guy shouted out to me “bro you’re right, landlords ARE parasites”. So, most people don’t say it out loud, but there are people who agree with me. I was between the university and Ilam New World writing with my chalk, and a group of students walked past. One girl just said “FACTS”. They got the message :)
Most New Zealanders are neither here nor there, they just wander aimlessly through life with a passive attitude like NPCs in a computer game. I’m not trying to win over those who are entirely passive “go with the flow, yeah nah bro” kinds of fools. If a few good people saw my chalk and laughed, then it was worth it. I don’t care about the unwashed masses who are willing to accept any amount of abuse from landlords or the government. The type of person who rents, but is indifferent to my cause, I ignore them. These people will be the first to line up at the edge of a trench and take a bullet to the back of the head, willingly, if there was an authoritarian government. I’m the person who has to be assassinated or black-bagged first thing because I’m the person who agitates the second tier.
Put it like this:
web forums are awesome though, it beats the hell out of discord or whatever gen z is obsessed with.
not my problem that kiwis are so quiet and passive and don’t post.
It fails to upload as a comment and I’m not going to resize every single file (assuming that’s the issue). Sorry if you’re on mobile and don’t have a real computer.
I’d agree to teach programming and maths for the minimum wage if they’d let me, but there’s probably some BS requirement like needing a degree or having to pass a police check. The only thing I’ve done wrong is have the wrong thoughts about the government, that’s not even a criminal record. They only want brain-dead degree wielders to teach. If you have any anti-government views and don’t have a degree, might as well stay on the benefit. They don’t like people who engage in wrong-think, even if it’s in their own time. The failed education system is by design, and only a fool would think that Luxon and/or more funding will fix it. The education system is rotten to the core. It needs a complete re-work.
Yeah maybe VB isn’t so bad, it was the lack of inspiration from teachers and lack of role models and advice that ruined it for me.
You couldn’t make me go there just for the money. No way am I going to study 3 years just to become a teacher, when I can teach in a world class city like Moscow with only a minor qualification that takes 1 month to get.
Read the Fight Club book if you haven’t.
That last part is the real deal here. Somewhere I have an old screen-shot from Trade Me Forum where a guy said he quit teaching because they basically thought he was a pedo or something like that. As a male, you can’t dare be too friendly or jokey with any student, male or female, or you’ll have to go through some sexual predator prevention programme or something. It will only get worse, and eventually they will roll out this “woke” training nonsense into every profession. Women control all the cosy office jobs and it’s always women in HR who push the anti-male crap.
I just looked for work on Seek and Trade Me and there’s maybe 2 jobs suitable for me, assuming the hours are reasonable. I’d rather die in a ditch in Ukraine than live in a backwater country like NZ. Nobody should pretend we are first world. Look at the poverty here, and the downtrodden fools who work in supermarkets, hardware stores and distribution centres. Being a wigger, acting tough and boasting about made up stories makes you top dog in some industries. NZ is a backwater country and it will never develop into anything that resembles a decent country. In 10 years from now I’ll still be complaining about crappy over-priced rental bedrooms, and jobs that chew through staff every month.
I dropped out on my 16th birthday and I never completed level 1 NCEA. I asked to do a programming class and showed them a program I had written, but all they could offer me was Microsoft Visual Basic. Which, from my understanding, is stuff like putting a button on the screen, clicking it, and making it say “button clicked” (that was year 12’s programme for 16-17 year olds, but it’s probably more suited to a 10 year old’s level). I wanted to learn pre-uni stuff like ‘c’ and c++ but they didn’t teach that. I don’t think they even taught Python.
The male teacher who I talked to on this matter was really boring and uninspiring. I didn’t see how any of my classes would help me with my plans. The principal and secretary of the school kept on dragging me and my divorced parents into meetings because I was bogging down the school’s stats. They really are just a bunch of useless paper pushers.
I’d like to volunteer to help primary school children or speak in high school assemblies, but it’s impossible to do this, because the government-owned schools don’t give a crap about what’s good for people. Once I tried to sign up for Big Brothers Big Sisters, but the reference checks were impossible for me to pass. I think they wanted 3 people who had known me for 5+ years and it couldn’t be my best mate or family lol. Nobody has really known me closely for 5+ years because I’ve never held a full time job for 12 months. Like the wojak/doomer meme I’m mostly invisible in this society.
The government won’t fix this. What radical change to education could they possibly make? They can tweak a bit of administration, but the rotten core of the education system will remain.
There won’t be any significant change, and they will become bigger spenders than Labour when it comes to prisons. Supposedly the prison system is at maximum capacity and it’s just not popular to build more prisons (even though we should). I’d be in favour of National if their policy included building something like the Black Dolphin (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Dolphin_Prison) but then having normal prisons for people who commit minor offenses, like swearing on the phone or not paying their parking fines.
As far as I’m concerned Luxon is just a twink who takes it up the can. He’s not the far-right over-zealous Christian bigot that Reddit says he is. He’s not going to make any significant changes - and his policies will cost the tax payer more. How many prisons will they need to build to keep people locked up? This is the question that nobody is asking. What is the cost to the tax payer? And what will they do as an incentive to not ram raid, not join gangs and not commit crime? The minimum wage isn’t enough to live on. If I suddenly have to buy a new car I’ll have to ask my folks for some money. National and Labour are crap parties and I don’t understand why anyone votes for them, they have destroyed the economy, made everything unaffordable.
If you don’t go to uni at 17, get a degree by age 20, get into middle management in your 20s, then you’ll just never own a new Mazda or a house. Even if you do everything perfectly, at best you can own a small townhouse and have 2 children by the time you’re 40. The quality of life keeps going down, even for the upper middle class. We stress out and work hard just for basics. This country is a hellhole.
making it harder for young families to buy in the communities they live and work in
Yay let’s all spend $100 a week commuting to work and back.
Looking forward to dying from heatstroke in 50 years time from global warming due to increased and prolonged reliance on fossil fuels.
National will do everything they can to sabotage cheap petrol. The Marsden Point Refinery will never function again, and National supports the Russia Sanctions Act, making sure we never buy petrol from the #2 producer in the world, meanwhile #1 producer (Saudi Arabia) increases the price. India and China will continue using diesel and oil as usual and here in NZ the yuppie elite will drive their Teslas, and using fossil fuels will be a dirty poor people thing. It’ll mostly be poor people like me who can’t buy a new $15,000 EV with 70 battery health who will be driving petrol cars 5 years from now.
I’ll be demonised for my carbon sins.
Luxon says climate change is a fact and it’s caused by us, so it’s only a matter of time before a fanatical nutjob proposes a ban on natural gas. There is nobody advocating for continued use of fossil fuel, they all want it gone, just a matter of how long.
China will continue to use the Power Of Siberia pipeline and use quantities of gas that we cannot imagine, but kiwis will be told that having a bbq is bad, and driving an LPG forklift is bad. In Christchurch we had very strong winds yesterday and within a few hours of the government alert system pinging our phones, Redditors were speculating that the Nor West wind is proof of climate change.
If people can afford the latest technologies that’s great, but I’m poor and I want to continue using fossil fuels especially when my rent is so high. What if it’s the weekend and 1 of the other 11 tenants is using the only washing machine and dryer? How do I wash my laundry if I don’t have a petrol car to drive to the laundromat? I can’t believe the greenies are going on about housing trusts and not taking about ridiculous zoning and regulations that prevent us from having a world class city. I can’t cook where I live, I can’t do my laundry. The washing machine is constantly breaking and playing up. It’ll just lock a person’s clothes and not open for 3 days. It’s a disaster. So until I have my own apartment with a bike shed and laundry, I’m probably going to need fossil fuels.
You may as well write to ministers and officials, and tell them how poorly they perform, and that their actions have corrupted the country and ruined the lives of countless people.
The real reason not to watch the video is because it’s things that we already know, but I appreciate that he’s vocal about these issues, while other people are silent or in denial. Solomon owned a games arcade in Timaru, I don’t know if he still has it.
BRUH. My replies aren’t working, even with the vanilla firefox in Kubuntu. This is weird.
edit: does select language cause replies to fail?
I cared less about this story and more about the attention that it generated. New Zealand has an extremely feminine culture, we care too much about people and what they do, what they look like, or how they are coping emotionally. The story only serves as a distraction from numerous failures which Parliament is responsible for, and seeks to humanise a group of people (Members of Parliament) that are largely predatory and corrupt.
