I was seeing it as an open threat of a coup from the military that they weren’t prepared to carry any further, more than a serious coup attempt. But, maybe I’m less skeptical than I need to be.

There was that policy paper from 2009 which was a roadmap to provoke full war with Iran. It might be argued the the current genocide in Gaza and the West Bank may have been manufactured for that reason, and failing to get the response they wanted, Isn’treal is locked into continuing escalation.
