House Republicans are launching a vast re-investigation of the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol, seeking to push the blame away from Donald Trump who has been indicted over his actions or his supporters in the mob siege trying to overturn the 2020 election.
As Trump campaigns to return to the White House, the House Administration subcommittee on Oversight held the first of what is expected to be regular public hearings revisiting the official account, which had aired in great detail in 2022 by the House’s Select Committee on Jan. 6.
Chairman Barry Loudermilk, R-Ga., called Jan. 6 a “dark day” in U.S. history as he opened Tuesday’s hearing to delve into the investigation of pipe bombs that were left outside Republican and Democratic party headquarters that day.
But he said, “we still have many unanswered questions.”
I’m looking forward to this not going as planned - which seems to be the norm for the GOP these days. How wild would it be for one of their witnesses to just add “…as was directed by President Trump” after something particularly heinous? Hell, this will just keep reminding Americans of how crazy the Republicans are and it’s a presidential election year, so even without a bombshell I think this is probably going to backfire.
No matter how poorly these “hearings” go, conservatives everywhere will pretend they went perfectly in their favor. They will pretend to prove whatever absolute vile bullshit they dream up. They will pretend to all believe it.
A conservative is biologically incapable of honesty. Every word uttered by a conservative is deception or manipulation. Every word.
I think they went a little overboard on the “Fake it 'till you make it” concept.
I don’t know how anyone who has been paying attention at all can still be this optimistic… This will work, like these stupid fucking schemes always do, because people (particularly conservatives) are fucking stupid and incapable of rational thought.
