I’m a German nurse interviewing for 9 to 5 office jobs.

If I get one of these jobs, I wanted not to completely leave nursing: my system pays better than other local hospitals and I don’t want my experience to go to waste. I wanted to work 2 to 4 weekend days per month, only second shift (shift starts at 12:30 and ends at 21:30), 'cause this is considered the easy shift and I want the extra money, but if I don’t like it, I can always change units or just work my office job.

I’m curious to hear answers from both sides of the Atlantic

I work every other sunday at my old job. My new job is 40 hours. Pay is mediocre, so barely enough to sustain a family. Wife can’t work due to medical reasons. So the extra money is needed. Also it’s 200% on sundays, so those 2 days (18-20 hours) are worth about €250/month, which makes it worth it imho. I wouldn’t do it for less. They’ve asked my for saturdays, but that’s only 5 hours, for 150%, at 4 in the morning (instead of 2 in the afternoon on sunday). I don’t do saturdays anymore.

Also, it’s my old job. I need to drive a truck and unload at the usual places. I could do it blindfolded if it wasn’t illegal to drive a truck blindfolded. Funny thing is, I really hated the job the last year before I changed careers. Now I actually enjoy it, because it’s my “podcast and audiobook time”.

However, if I could afford to quit it, I would.
