And it feels like we’re on a razor’s edge that could tip us back in that direction at a moment’s notice.

No it’s all really recent. For reference, my country, Sweden, commonly referred to as being super progressive and whatever overturned a law requiring trans people to undergo sterilisation if they wanted their gender legally recognised in 2013. Mere eleven years ago.

We were super horny for eugenics and the shit the Nazis did. Sure most of Europe was, but we aren’t the saints we like to portray ourselves as.

Thank you. SCOTUS will absolutely cite this again during the next round of layoffs of long-held civil rights.

Lawrence and Garner appealed their sentences to the Texas Courts of Appeals, which ruled in 2000 that the sodomy law was unconstitutional. Texas appealed to have the court rehear the case en banc, and in 2001 it overturned its prior judgment and upheld the law… Lawrence then appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court, which agreed to hear his case.

The Supreme Court struck down the sodomy law in Texas in a 6–3 decision, and by extension invalidated sodomy laws in 13 other states

Never overestimate how precious weak men are about sexuality and oppression. I can just hear all the knickers twisting on that full en banc panel of Texas judges.
