Moebius: This drawing is one of my earlier experiments with the airbrush. It is also very telling about my spiritual situation at the time. It’s not unlike a psychic self-portrait. This was a time of changes, when I decided to completely change my life-style. I quit smoking, stopped drinking, etc.
At the time, I didn’t think about it, but today, I see quite clearly a relationship between those weird creatures at the bottom of the picture that are trying to attack the central character and all the bad habits I was trying to break.

I simply cannot understand it.
So, this was a person who’s just sort of screwing around, branching out, having fun at the time…?
You know, I like to consider myself an “artist” at the peak of times, but in fact I’m just a little boy when I look at Giraud’s stuff, right when he’s got it going on. He’s just… astonishing.
He sure was the master of his craft but let´s not forget that he was also just human and went through personal troubles like all of us.
Comparing oneself with the single best in the world is not fair for 99% of humanity ;)
