Moebius: This drawing is one of my earlier experiments with the airbrush. It is also very telling about my spiritual situation at the time. It’s not unlike a psychic self-portrait. This was a time of changes, when I decided to completely change my life-style. I quit smoking, stopped drinking, etc.
At the time, I didn’t think about it, but today, I see quite clearly a relationship between those weird creatures at the bottom of the picture that are trying to attack the central character and all the bad habits I was trying to break.

I simply cannot understand it.
So, this was a person who’s just sort of screwing around, branching out, having fun at the time…?You know, I like to consider myself an “artist” at the peak of times, but in fact I’m just a little boy when I look at Giraud’s stuff, right when he’s got it going on. He’s just… astonishing.
He sure was the master of his craft but let´s not forget that he was also just human and went through personal troubles like all of us.
