Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) national secretary Tejinder Pall Singh Bagga on Monday made a sensational claim, saying killed Sikh separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar was gay and that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau used to like him.

His statement comes amid a diplomatic standoff between India and Canada that ensued after Trudeau alleged the Indian government was involved in Nijjar’s killing. India has asked Canada to provide proof to back the allegations but none have come yet.

After the self inflicted Reddit apocalypse hit, /r/all was suddenly full of shit subs, among which all the “am I ugly” attention whore ones and several Indian ones.

And I have to say, those subs do not give me a particularly positive view of the Indian people.

Yeah that may be true, but this is an old subreddit with basically news articles about BJP (ruling party lead by Modi) spokespersons saying dumb things in public.

This only leads me to assume that India really did have the guy assassinated.

Fair chance it’s true, irrespective of why Canada is risking their trade and global relationship. They probably wouldn’t accuse without intelligence.

      Always a relevant Simpsons quote

Kid: What if people say you’re not good enough to be in the Constitution?

Amendment: Then I’ll crush all opposition to me, And I’ll make Ted Kennedy pay. If he fights back, I’ll say that he’s gaaaay

India is the world’s biggest democracy. It’s the birthplace of four major religions, Hinduism, Sikhism, Buddhism and Jainism, and has one of the world’s largest populations of Muslims. It has 23 official languages.

The fact that it’s even still a country is a miracle of democracy (and cricket).

Could be. I don’t know. Different democracy indices set it even below the fake democracy in the US 🤷

The Economist ranks it on par with Poland, which is a member of the EU.

The downgrading of India’s democracy is basically related to the rise of Hindu nationalism, especially under Modi, and the suppression of freedoms of speech and religion. These are serious and concerning issues, to be sure, but like I mentioned, India is a diverse country and the fact that these tensions have been kept in check for so long is the real surprise. Even Sweden is buckling under the pressure of a (relatively) tiny influx of racial/religious diversity.

Yeah… Poland is usually classified as deficient in democracy or sometimes even a hybrid regime. It’s not a good direction in many places. I really hope better for the people in India and everywhere else.

IIRC a lot of Sweden’s issues stem from city level zoning creating segregation by social class. Thus migration with lesser opportunities than natives to move between classes, end up in areas with people who’ve already been abandoned by the system.

Ok I’m a little behind on this story. Why did Trudeau say India was involved?

And what the fuck, India? Grow up.

The US has admitted that the five eyes intelligence sharing played a part.

Canada is claiming to have Indian government communiques and signal intelligence backing them up.

this story is still developing, but only badly. so far, it is not clear, but some part of India was probably involved, not sure it implicates the PM Modi or his underlings.

but yeah, Modi looks like is a murderous tyrant, history is stacking up against him

Propaganda is not there to make you agree with it, it is there to tell you that you are powerless against it

      • that’s interesting. i’d wager propaganda only works that way when it’s winning. but that’s difficult to gauge these days. propaganda is more segmented and social media is more “federated”. hell, trump’s social bs exists via mastodon.

He gets at least one thing so wrong I have to question the reliability of the entire thing.

Nijjar has been a landed Canadian immigrants since 1997, not 2007, and its important to note that he got that status via a quick marriage after being denied refugee status.

2006 was the first time India claimed him to be some kind of terrorist mastermind.

Thanks. This topic seems complicated and that there is no moral winner. India cannot assassinate foreign citizens. At the same time, creating a hostile Sikh movement using Canada as a shield should not be tolerated either. We need better anti-extremist programs for every race, culture, and religious groups. I’m just so tired of hate.
