For mental health reasons, I had taken myself out of most political topics. But lately there seems to be a surge of talk about Palestine and Hamas (forgive me if I spelled this wrong). I do know it’s something to do with land rights, but it also seems to be so much more at the same time. I’m not trying to start any fights. I just want to understand. Thank you.

I would add a few more things to complete the picture

As another lemming added a lot of the people that formed the Yishuv (‘settlement’) that started in 1880 didn’t come from Europe but from the surrounding Ottoman Empire. Other large contingents from Russia, the Iberian peninsula and Northern Africa as well, where they were disriminated against to various degrees.

Arab Palestinians started to organize against these immigrants in the 1920’s. They didn’t need their neighbouring governments for that.

But something very important that you seem to leave out is that from the very start, important leaders of the zionists had always planned to take the entire territory, and remove the unwanted locals.

So they ‘accepted’ the UN borders, which were already very generous, with the context that some of them would try to take the rest anyway. Of course, the Arabs trying to do the same actually helped them in their goal.

Edit: don’t know how this popped up in my feed, just now noticed that this is 10mo old…
