I feel there will always be a place for ‘smaller’ games that were handcrafted with love. People love Baldur’s Gate 3. Lots of indies are doing very well. People ecause it’s clear the people involved love their product.

It’ll just become harder to find the gems between all the carbon copy puppy mill games that are either lazily produced to cash in, or don’t dare take risks due to the budgets involved.

Half the reason companies in all industries are pushing AI adoption is to minimize their labor costs, which usually constitutes 25-30% of their operational expenses. Lower headcount means lower expenses, which means higher profits.

There will be companies that try to go all-AI, but with the current state of things their products probably won’t be as good compared to a mixed workforce of humans+AI… but the long-term goal is to reduce headcount, and thus payrolls, to absolute minimums and let AI do the rest.

As much as people are freaking out about it, I think the arts are going to be safe from ai for quite some time yet. Ai for the foreseeable future can only remix existing art, but can’t actually create anything new.

Honestly, I think the people handling graphics, sound, story and overall design aren’t going to have to worry about their jobs anytime soon. The coders on the other hand might be in trouble.

You vastly vastly vastly overestimate how many artists create unique work as a part of their job.

But if an artist creates at least 1 unique piece in their entire life, that’s 1 more unique work than all of ai has collectively created up to this moment. There’s a giant difference between mostly derivative and only derivative.

From what is out there currently AI coding is comically bad. It is going to change of course, but right now art/voiceovers is the lowest hanging fruit for AI.

It’s not over. Like NFTs, AI is the newest tech hype bullshit, so every evil asshole wants in.

But the massive corporations that tell all their artists and writers and programmers to fuck off, will end up just churning out even more soulless trash, while AA and indie studios will take those passionate people in and endure.

Basically: getting fired from an abusive company that hates you, probably isn’t the kind of company you’d want to work for anyway.

Same, I’ve been trying to find work, but every posting ever wanting years of experience, and this, is scaring the shit out of me :(
