They read something about how (for example) unlike the US, the USSR had little to no tropical fruit in its grocery stores and they think “ah, clearly capitalism is the superior system” rather than, say, recognizing that the US was able to have cheap tropical fruit because it installed juntas in Central/South America and forced them to orient their economies around fruit exports.
Or ecologically devastate their own biomes so they can have fucking pistachios a la California, Nevada, Arizona, etc.
