How is this even possible in 2024? I realize Rochester isn’t exactly a major metropolis, but we’re in the middle of town! It’s not like they’re relying on Hughesnet or something.

Also, it’s not that they’re cheaping out on us either. The owners live upstairs. This is a duplex.

I’m here with my mother (also mildly infuriating) who chose it and is paying for it, so I’ll have to talk to her about it, thanks.

i don’t see how that changes anything. in fact, i might be more outraged, as they’re taking advantage of your poor, sweet, elderly mother, which is exactly how you should put it in every single complaint call, email, and social media post.

It doesn’t change anything. I just never saw the listing, which is why I had to talk to her about it.

Holy shit guys how about we suggest they politely bring this up to the host to give them a chance to sort it out as a starting point? Am I the only one who thinks this whole thread is flying off the handle?

Obviously if they make excuses or tell you to suck it up, then go to town. But Jesus at least give them a chance to sort it lmao

No, no, we must immediately jump to extreme actions. Burn their neighbor’s house down to show that you are serious and threaten to do the same to the duplex unless they pay to have fiber installed in the next 2 hours!

Nobody sets up shitty internet service “by mistake”. For it to such that badly takes intent: being shitass cheap, hoping nobody will bother to complain.

But you’re nice, so that’s something.

and they’ll find out when airbnb gets a call saying their guest is very upset and threatening a cancellation and demanding their money back, and has filed a fraudulent listing report. and they’ll learn a very valuable lesson about checking everything so their guests don’t have to be inconvenienced again.

it’s not the guest’s job to make sure things work properly-- it’s the failure of the host. they should be the ones who suffer the consequences.

Are you seriously telling me that whenever you find something you don’t like at your hotel/Airbnb/whatever, the first thing you do is push it up to management? You don’t at least try to sort it out in a more casual way?

                How entitled are you?

i’m entitled to what i pay for, and i really would like to know how you could possibly argue anyone isn’t, or that they aren’t entitled to complain when they don’t get what they pay for.

and why, precisely, do you believe that when one person fails in their obligation to provide the service for which they were paid to provide, they shouldn’t face consequences for the fraud they perpetrated?

You must be a complete and utter prick at restaurants. I don’t wish any service worker you as a guest.
