There is talk that he may be in negotiations with Williams for their second seat next year alongside Alex Albon.

“Williams, as we understand, are sick of waiting for Carlos Sainz to make his mind up on where he wants to go next year and may close that door off for him.”

I’m really struggling to understand his thought process here.

Once it became clear that a Mercedes or Red Bull drive was out of the picture. The Audi/Sauber deal seemed like a done deal. A factory team with big money behind it.

Then Williams seemed to tempt him, now it’s a non-factory Alpine that’s won him over.

I suspect he’s still hoping for Merc, it’s still a moonshot for Merc to sign Max, so they are hedging between Carlos and Max. Red Bull would also become available if Max left, no way Red Bull would promote any of the two RB drivers through choice and Carlos would be their best bet.

My mind is still blown over having Sainz and Bearman, then opting to sign Hamilton. Ferrari were finally doing everything right so it makes sense they’d shoot their foot.

My wild guess is that Ocon ends up without a seat. He has the skills but not many teams are going to want someone who will willingly damage another team car for a marginal position.
