When companies like Aetna or UnitedHealthcare want to rein in costs, they turn to EviCore, whose business model depends on turning down payments for care recommended by doctors for their patients.

These motherfuckers have denied me a CT scan twice in the last month. First after saying they needed additional diagnostics before the scan and then saying it just wasn’t needed after my doctor did the additional (useless) tests that they asked for the first time.

Everyone who works at this corporate travesty should feel deeply ashamed for denying care for millions of people who need it.

If you get denied for coverage for something you know is in your plan always ask for the name and credentials of whoever made the denial! If they are not an MD they are not supposed to make that call as that can be interpreted as practicing medicine (determining if someone gets treatment or not) without a license. Often insurance companies will back down if you assert that you need a medical professional to review the denial /your appeal of the denial. (YMMV/IANAL)

Be careful of this, though. They do have MDs on hand who will absolutely rubber stamp denials.

The short jump from EviCore to EvilCore is really a bit on the nose, isn’t it?

Anyways but middlemen and insurance companies cutting costs and raking in profits, with healthcare practitioners and patients suffering are the hallmarks of the American Healthcare system.

Its like in the show Mr Robot. I bet million dollars the founders of that company did that name on purpose thinking evil the whole time. Because no way you start a business like this if you’re not evil.

Every fucking health insurance company should be dismantled and companies like this should have the CEO and upper management hung from a tree.

Really appreciate their coverage of pretty much everything - lots of detail, no fluff, and no over the top headlines.

And yep, fuck insurance. Helped make the entire point of US healthcare providing profit for big corps and not actually patient wellness.

If they are wholly owned by Cigna, doesn’t it seem like they’re not necessarily just middle men, but more like designated patsies? Why wouldn’t Cigna do this in house, unless they are trying to limit their exposure to liability when this blows up?
