Had this happen at work today and my colleagues looked at me like I was a madman for tying both shoes again, instead of just the one that got loose. But doing both shoes again just makes more sense, because you ensure both shoes are equally tight again.
Am I just weird for doing this?
I only re tie the loose one, I’ve never heard of anyone redoing both. But your logic is sound. 😆
I retie both about half the time because often times when one side comes loose, the other side is close to being undone. That way I don’t have to bend down twice in a short time (I have chronic pain).
I usually start off intending to only retie, then I walk around for a bit, get annoyed, and do the other one.
Your strategy of accepting the inevitable makes more sense which is why I will promptly forget it.
This is almost the exact reply I was about to write.
The difference is that if I was in a hurry to do something right before it came loose I will only tie the one, and go back for the other one the time pressure was over.
But that’s probably true for all of us, so kinda redundant.
What’s your job?
I do this too, but only after a few years of IT where I learned that if one thing breaks it’s counterpart would soon break so might as well fix/replace while I’m working on the original problem.

Yeah you’re a weirdo.
I can see your point, but tying both shoes would never ever have occurred to me as an option (unless I noticed the other shoe getting loose too). So I get your colleagues’ surprise.
I use a Turquoise Turtle knot. My shoes don’t come untied by accident.
Ian’s here, and same. It’s so crazy that these knots which really aren’t harder to learn, aren’t the ones taught to kids.
Sorry, you’re the weirdo.
you buy shoes without laces. last couple pairs of shoes I’ve had have had no laces and it’s really nice
You might try making one small change in the way you tie your shoe and you will find you rarely have them come undone.
Yes, there is a Ted Talk for tieing shoes.
Or you could go with an even more secure (and symmetrical) version
Thanks, I’ll try that out when I get home.
Nice, just tried it. I’ll start tying my shoes this way.
Ehh… I’ll give the other one a tug to make sure it isn’t loose. But I’m not going to untie and retie it unless I have to.
If there’s a big difference in how tight both shoes are I’ll do the 2nd as well.

I just double knot so the laces dont usually come undone so I’d just do the one shoe

Would a waterproof boot work better?
I’ve worked in similar jobs where you’re on your feet all day, so I understand focusing on comfort, though.

Ah, it was inside, my bad.
Step 1: get Blundstones for work and never worry about laces again!
Otherwise, I only tie the affected shoe unless it’s clear that the unaffected one is compromised.
Please tell me you didn’t start with the untied lace. If I saw you notice one of your shoes were untied and you started by un/retying the other one first I would immediately and permanently be convinced you were, or are about to become, a serial killer.

I would never retie a shoe that’s tied, but also I can never get my shoes the same tightness anyway so I have no motivation to try. My feet are a little over half a US shoe size different.
If I’m in a hurry, I’ll just do the one, but if I have time I’ll do both.
