I love it when artwork instantly transports you into the scene.

This oozes atmosphere. I can hear the seaguls, the sea, the wind, the creaking tower. I can smell the sea, hear the soundtrack and feel the slice of life story.

    now crul;

i’m aware that you use mlmym which doesn’t show display names, and i’m also aware that i’ve changed the display name a few times because i don’t know how best to communicate the feeling i’m hoping to encapsulate; but i’m afeared you haven’t recently read this lemmysphere’s sidebar…

what you’ve posted is really cool, but i think all 3 would be better suited to wastelands & ruins

(i put all this in a spoiler tag because i hate to criticise)

Thanks for the correction! Just to check I understand, this is what I see on the sidebar:

Artwork showing the degradation of architecture or society: run-down, grungy, or ramshackle yet inhabited and populated towns or houses

Is it derelict, or abandoned and then re-inhabited?

So… the problem is that this is not re-inhabited, right?

I will post it to !imaginarywastelands@lemm.ee, just let me know if I should remove this one (or feel free to remove it yourselft).

Don’t worry about criticising (with me), the “curation” part of moderating a community is also important.

it’s that it’s not currently inhabited by the society that built it

i’ve been a bit inconsistent with the theme of this 'sphere - my first plan was specifically this kind of depressing and rain-drenched mediæval hamlet sort of thing (i.e. the degradation of the architecture and society in general, hence the original name & url),
        a smog-filled and lamplit night-time mediæval market
but then i realised that’s probably a bit niche, considering the current population of lemmy so i expanded it to any type of dystopic village or city

but yeah, the idea is just any currently functioning municipality in which you wouldn’t want to live; as opposed to /c/wastelands where there may be a society, but it’s collapsed and rebuilt itself (i.e. mad max 3). most likely if the buildings were built from scratch for their current function, it fits here, whereas if they’re scratch-built from old vehicle carcasses or whatever, they’d fit better in wastelands.

i know i personally have a predilection toward mediæval and victoriana, but i would also welcome cyberpunk dystopiæ; or any sort of ill-repaired buildings or smog-filled overpopulated cities[1]

(sorry that was rambly, i literally have no idea how to describe it…)

        1. or any type of dystopia, but i have no idea how you’d find art depicting a huxleyan dystopia… ↩︎

Oh, I think I got it. The key feature is the continuinity of the people and the buildings.

          Thanks for the explanation!
