I think an important functionality would be able to search with a prefixed exclamation mark to be able to specify an unfederated community, such as !community@lemmyinstance.com
Im still learning the ropes here but I think that’s an important thing to be able to do from wefwef?
Is that what the exclamation mark means? I thought that’s just a community prefix. Also what does unfederated mean, not accessible from other instances?
Edit: seems to just be a prefix for communities, so I guess it means nothing other than making it clearer that it’s a Lemmy community?
It also prevents your e-mail client from starting up, as your OS will probably consider the community address an e-mail address if it doesn’t start with an exclamation mark.
Basically I made a community on lemmy.fmhy.ml and then searched for it on a different instance and it wasn’t coming up, and apparently you have to search !community@instance and subscribe and only then will the community be searchable/accessible from the other instance.
Maybe Lemmy was just having issues. I couldn’t find the iOS shortcuts community on lemmy.world before and then it suddenly worked. Both times I was just searching for the name.
