All the NUCs and other mini PCs I see run mobile processors.
It’s a shame because a simple downdraft air cooler with a 120mm fan can handle a pretty high power load and could definitely fit in a tiny space.
Add a few thunderbolt ports and you could have a capable and upgradeable little pc.
I feel like there’s just not a significant market for that.
Plenty of things that want that small size don’t need the better processing, and relatively few things that need that better processing are concerned about space.
I agree, it’s a shame.
You can always built a micro ITX real server with some of the AsRock server boards. Not as small as a NUC but pretty small considering their capabilities.
I’m not so confident as you in stuffing a 100-150W TDP CPU in a NUC-sized case.
Is this what you are looking for? https://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-ThinkCentre-M910Q-3-Monitor-DisplayPort/dp/B08MMQH98H
I have one of those. It is amazing! I decommissioned a 1U Dell server for it. No RAID but my data isn’t critical.
I have one as well. Its really nice, but the biggest drawback imho is it only support 1x2.5 inch drive
damn thats cheap
That’s some impressive specs for the case.
Check out this little beast. Pretty bloody capable for the size and price.
Have you looked at the size of the latest videocards? That’s just the GPU (and secondary components), and it’s bigger than a NUC. The power supply needed to feed a powerful GPU and CPU is larger than a NUC. There’s a lot of empty space inside a modern tower case, but you’re not shrinking high end components down into a NUC. It’s just not feasible.
Hi there! Looks like you linked to a Lemmy community using a URL instead of its name, which doesn’t work well for people on different instances. Try fixing it like this: !sffpc@lemmy.world
