Good thing I don’t perform any activity there any longer
Right? It feels so good to be out from under their thumb. It is annoying when people send me intriguing Reddit links. I’m not opening them

Pretty sure somewhere in fine print it says they are not doing it where GDPR applies.
It’s so funny how this is a thing. Like other countries basically say “yeah fuck our citizens, just do what you want” for the whole world to see.
Reddit: Assume the position!
People who haven’t left for Lemmy yet: Awwww maaan!
Time for the free hand of the market to molest some redditors!
Remember, it’s for private profit, so as an American, it’s your duty to enjoy it.
Easy there, Blitz
Oh look, MORE enshittification.
I’m curious how long and how far it’ll go before the pendulum finally shifts. When central banks cut rates?
There is no pendulum. We’re on the train to hell.
Pray they don’t alter the deal any further
The company noted that ad-limiting controls will possibly show you fewer ads from mentioned categories if the toggles are turned off, but won’t possibly filter out all ads. Reddit justified this by saying it uses manual tagging and machine learning to label ads, so there is a chance that it is not 100% accurate.
Because of course they use manual tagging, so that Huffman can get in there and make sure that people see what he wants them to, even if they don’t.
I’m still salty and disappointed how most people continue to stay there knowing all this shit
While the overall amount of users barely changed, the drop in new posts and comments after July is actually rather striking according to subredditstats.com. r/AskReddit, the most active subreddit on the site went from 70k comments and 5k posts per day down to 15k comments and 2k posts. r/news dropped 5k/100 -> 1k/20. r/aww went from 3k/300 -> 300/50. r/AmItheAsshole went from 30k daily comments down to 5k. r/meirl dropped from 350 posts a day down to like 80.
It turns out there is a huge overlap between people using the superior 3rd party apps to access your site and the users that bother to actually create and interact on that site. Who would have known?
5k posts per day??? I had no idea the bigger subs were that “active.” That is a ridiculously unmanageable amount of noise.
When I do a search on some topic and Reddit comes up as a choice, it’s my last option. I feel guilty when I do choose it. I’ve drunk the fediverse coolaide. It tastes good.
This is literally the worst. I hate it for example on Instagram, you press on some K-pop post just to cringe a bit, and the aLgOrYtHiM thinks I now want to see K-pop 24/7
This is the best summary I could come up with:
Reddit said Wednesday that the platform is revamping its privacy settings with an aim to make ad personalization and account visibility toggles consistent.
Our advertisers instead rely on on-platform activity—what communities you join, leave, upvotes, downvotes, and other signals—to get an idea of what you might be interested in,” Reddit said.
Reddit is seemingly removing toggles for getting post recommendations based on “general location” and activity on partner sites and apps.
The social network said it will also roll out controls to limit certain advertising categories such as alcohol, weight loss, dating, gambling pregnancy, and parenting.
It infamously made changes to its data API terms that led to many third-party clients shutting down and subreddits protesting in retaliation.
In an interview with The Verge in June, Reddit CEO Steve Huffman responded to IPO rumors and said “Getting to breakeven is a priority for us in any climate.”
The original article contains 415 words, the summary contains 147 words. Saved 65%. I’m a bot and I’m open source!
gross
Yeah bruh I fucked outta there when they shit the bed. Fuck ‘em.
If their spying algorithm is as easy to fool as Instagram’s, that wouldn’t be a major concern if I still used that bad fediverse clone.
Good thing both of my accounts are deleted
Fuck reddit.
