  • Yep.

I would recommend folks watch this 20 minute video on Rules for Rulers from CGP Grey.

Despots, Presidents, CEOs, Deans, Homeowners Association Presidents, the guy who runs the open mic- at the end of the day they have to follow the same rules to maintain their power. The zero’th rule in the video is “without power, you affect nothing”.

I’m voting for Kamala, and I’m voting down ballot for any pro-palestine candidate. I want to send the message that in order to get reelected, she will need to change her stance.

When I see people not voting out of protest, they are giving their opposition the influence over their elected officials. Remember, they work for you, and voting is how you let them know what you want.

  • Side note:

I like to do a semi-anual audit of the information sources I use, and last year I removed the infographics channel from my feed. It turns out it’s a content farm that puts quantity over quality. Some of their videos may actually be good, but they don’t have the fact checking safeguards that more reliable channels like kurzgesagt does.

You’ll notice Kurzgesagt has several videos that delve into how they do their research, and how the funds they receive from individuals, governments, and corporations affect their videos. Check to see if any of your channels have a “how we make our content” page. If they don’t, it’s for a reason.

Also, be wary of channels that use the kurzgesagt visual style, or an aesthetic that is similar to a notably trusted source. I’ve noticed a lot of false info that has an easier time being passed off as good due to using animation that we might associate with quality educational content.

  • Yea I agree with squid that we should not consider the soup kitchen the place of liberation.

I would say as a guy who has dressed in colorful formal attire when I worked in corporate jobs that you don’t get punished. This meme is like when conservatives say “you can’t say anything anymore”. Obviously you can, and frankly most of the backlash is made up.

That said, how much do you trust your life with Dr. Who? I’ve seen many characters die while trusting him, and that’s just the ones on screen.

I’m not saying he is a bad doctor, but he was caught on film losing several sidekicks/ allies. If you’re caught on film doing something, you probably do it a lot.

“If you get caught doing crack on the news, you are a crackhead. It’s not like a “oh this was just the one time” situation. You do it enough you get caught on the news doing it.” -Josh Johnson

Edit: just looked for an answer of what the mortality rate is for the Doctor and it’s 42% according to a reddit question. At some point the authorities would be called in because 42% is more than just a “licence revoked” number.

  • There are a lot of reasons but it just boils down to “when I’ve quit, life gets better, when I smoke, life gets worse.”

I’ve done that entire “maybe if I solve X mental issue I can smoke again” strategy, and when I quit, that issue gets solved, and when I start up again because the issue was solved, the issue comes back.

    Some issues have been:

    I’m not comfortable with myself

    I feel isolated

    I’m bad with money

    I don’t like my job

    I feel depressed

Maybe there’s some deep underlying issues I could try to therapy my way out of, but the obvious common denominator seems to be weed.

It’s hard to explain it, but those are my observations.

They should just secede from the union and be a small city state.

Would it benefit anyone? No. Would it be very costly to make the transition and potentially wreak havoc on the community? Absolutely. But would it create a sense of civic pride and feel good for the residents of Point Roberts? Also no.
